A pregnant teacher from upstate New York, just weeks from her due date, tragically died suddenly after collapsing in her classroom.

Courtney Fannon, 29, worked as a special education teacher at Kendal Central School, located approximately 30 miles northwest of Rochester in a rural community.

According to USA Today, on March 8th, Courtney had finished her day at the school in Kendall, New York. Shortly after exchanging texts with her husband, she was discovered unresponsive in her classroom. She was rushed to the hospital, where attempts were made to save both her and her unborn baby girl. Unfortunately, by 6:30 p.m. that same evening, both Courtney and her baby were pronounced dead.

Courtney’s cause of death has not been revealed at this time.

“In the wake of this devastating news, Kurtis was left to not only manage final arrangements for Courtney and Hadley, but he is living mine, and many others, worst nightmare of having to return to a home, filled with baby toys, bottles, furniture and a finished nursery, that will no longer be filled with the cooing sounds and shuffling of a newborn,” the page reads.

Courtney married Kurtis Fannon in August 2022, following a decade-long companionship. Kurtis, devastated by the loss, entrusted his friend Matt Smith to write a tribute on a GoFundMe page organized by the family.

New York Post shared Smith’s heartbreaking post:

In his lengthy post on GoFundMe, Smith wrote that Kurtis is living the “worst nightmare of having to return to a home, filled with baby toys, bottles, furniture and a finished nursery, that will no longer be filled with the cooing sounds and shuffling of a newborn.”

“For those who did not have the wonderful opportunity to meet or get to know Courtney, there is an endless amount of positive and good things that can only be said about her,” Smith continued.

“Hadley, although we never had the opportunity to meet you, see you grow up, and make great things out of yourself, I know that you will live on in all that your family does to ensure that the few breaths that you were able to take were not in vain and will not be forgotten,” he wrote.

“One so little, should not have the responsibility to look over their father, but with your mom’s guidance, I know that you will be prepared to send messages and signals that you are there watching, just as your mom would be prepared for everything,” Smith wrote.
