On Tuesday, a Tennessee surgeon was fatally shot by a 29-year-old man named Larry Pickens in an exam room at Campbell Clinic Orthopedics in Memphis.
Prior to the incident, Pickens had been a patient at the clinic and had been making threats towards one of the staff members for a week.
Following the tragic shooting, Pickens was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault, as reported by WREG. According to the Collierville Police Department, Pickens retrieved a gun from his waistband and fired three shots at Dr. Benjamin Mauck within the clinic located on Poplar Avenue.
The community has suffered a significant loss with the tragic death of Dr. Mauck. Last week, he was recognized on Memphis Magazine’s 2023 Top Doctor List, as reported by The New York Post.
Dr. Mauck chose a career as an orthopedic surgeon so he could help people and positively impact the lives of others.

The motive for the murder is unclear. Pickens’ bail has been set at $1.2 million.
