Another healthy athlete has dies suddenly and unexpectedly.
British middleweight boxer Sherif Lawal collapsed and died suddenly during his debut professional fight on Sunday.
Sherif was only 29 years old.
The match, the preliminary card, took a tragic turn during the fourth round when Sherif collapsed in the ring.
Referee Lee Every stopped the fight, realizing the seriousness of Sherif’s condition. His trainer, CJ Hussein, and the doctors from BBBofC sprang into action to assist Lawal. Despite efforts including the use of a defibrillator and transportation to Northwick Park Hospital, Lawal tragically died shortly after his arrival.
