On Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed the Biden-McCarthy debt ceiling bill by a vote of 314-117 with four members not voting. The bill received opposition from both parties but ultimately passed with more Democrat “yes” votes than Republican.
The bill will now advance to the Senate, where it is expected to pass.
“Tonight’s passage of the Fiscal Responsibility Act is an important step in the right direction. Now, it’s the Senate’s turn to pass this agreement without delay,” Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said shortly after the bill passed.
CNBC reported:
A bill to raise the debt limit and cap government spending passed in the House by a wide margin late Wednesday, sending the bill to the Senate just days before Monday’s U.S. default deadline.
The Fiscal Responsibility Act passed with support from both Democrats and Republicans, a dramatic conclusion to weeks of tense negotiations between the White House and Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
That drama now moves to the Democratic-controlled Senate, where leaders on both sides want to pass it in 48 hours.
