In Camden County, Georgia, a 53-year-old black man was shot and killed by a Georgia police officer earlier this week. The incident began when he was pulled over for speeding, and recently, police released dashcam footage showing that he violently attacked the officer prior to being fatally shot.

The suspect’s family, however, is rejecting the clear reality of the incident and instead placing blame on the officer.

Per the Daily Mail, the incident unfolded at 7:30 am Monday in Camden County, situated just north of Jacksonville, Florida. Leonard Allan Cure was driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph in his pickup truck, which led to a sheriff’s deputy pulling him over. The video footage captures the officer instructing Cure to exit his vehicle and place his hands on the back of his truck.

Cure’s response was to disobey the deputy’s commands, stating, “I ain’t doing sh*t.” He further threatened the officer by raising his fist, which prompted the officer to use a Taser on him. Cure then violently attacked the deputy by swinging at him and trying to choke him, which resulted in both of them eventually falling to the ground.

The officer was left with no other choice. He was being choked to death by Cure who was disobedient and combative from the start. Immediately following the incident, the officer was visibly shaken and clearly very upset that he had to use deadly force to defend himself.

The officer can later be heard crying in the background while the medics attempt to revive Cure.

The Camden County Sheriff’s Office explained that they made the footage public to correct the “misinformation” in the media about the incident.

The news media, and rumors within the community, have provided the public with misinformation. It is common for rumors to occur, but blatant false information by some media representatives should not be tolerated.

The entire incident could have been avoided if Cure had just complied.
