For quite some time, Trump has been considered a potential candidate for the role of House Speaker. There was even a time when it was suggested as a potential avenue for President Trump to return to the Oval Office, particularly following the stolen 2020 election.

With McCarthy no longer serving as Speaker, there are renewed calls for President Trump to be considered as the next Speaker of the House.

Breaking Digest reported that Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) introduced a surprising twist to the already chaotic Speaker of the House race. Taking to X (Twitter), Nehls announced his intention to nominate President Trump for the position of Speaker of the House.

President Trump confirmed today, while at a New York courthouse, that he has been in discussions regarding the potential opportunity to assume the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Trump said he would be willing to accept the role, highlighting his commitment to doing “whatever’s best for the country and for the Republican Party.”

Collin Rugg shared a video statement from President Trump and quoted the former leader of the United States.

“All I can say is we’ll do whatever’s best for the country and for the Republican Party. A lot of people have asked me about it… My focus is totally on [the election]. If I can help them during the process, I would do it,” Trump told the media.

Fox News reported:

The next speaker does not have to be a current sitting member in the House, but every speaker in U.S. history has been.

It’s not the first time Trump has been floated as a nominee for speakership, either.

In January, as McCarthy struggled to garner enough votes to secure his speakership, Gaetz cast a ballot for Trump.
