Dallas police are looking into the shooting of a suspect on Sunday night who is now in critical condition after being shot by an officer.

Hernan Gutierrez, 35, is being sought for a federal probation violation involving a firearm and will be charged with aggravated assault on a public official.

Property management at 1910 Bennett Ave. alerted Senior Cpl. Matthew McLain that a guy thought to be connected in a stolen vehicle case, where the suspect rammed a police car, was present at the location. When McLain arrived, he called for backup, and he and Officer Kimberley Esquivel tracked down Gutierrez in the complex’s back parking lot.

Despite the officers’ attempts to provide commands, Gutierrez resisted and started grappling with them. The officers tried using a taser, but it had no impact, then Gutierrez drew his weapon and fired a single shot. Esquivel shot Gutierrez in the chest in retaliation.
