From the original CBS 4 News report:

EL PASO, Texas (CBS4) — A recording of an English teacher at Franklin High School stirred up debate with parents and students.

A moment in teacher’s class Monday was recorded and later shared on a local blogger’s Facebook account.

The post asked people looking at the video to be vigilant. “Be vigilant! Talk to your kids, be involved with your schools, make your voice heard, VOTE!”

In the video, the teacher is heard saying, “Stop calling them that. You’re not allowed to label people like that. Stop it, Diego. We are not going to call them that. We’re going to call them, MAPs. Minor Attracted Persons. So don’t judge people just because they want to have sex with a 5-year-old.”

CBS 4 News later reported that a unanimous decision was made to fire Amber Parker after an investigation was conducted.

EL PASO, Texas (CBS4) — The Vice President of the El Paso ISD Board of Trustees explained to CBS4 why his support for Amber Parker, a Franklin High School teacher recorded saying controversial remarks about pedophilia, changed.

On Tuesday, the school board made a unanimous decision to move forward in firing Parker.

Parker, who placed on administrative leave, was recorded telling the classroom pedophile shouldn’t be used to describe people who want to have sex with a 5-year-old.

Daniel Call, a board trustee, told CBS4 he voted in favor after a thorough investigation was conducted.

Call’s previous remarks on August 31 showed support for Parker.

In a Facebook post, Call said he doesn’t think Parker was promoting or normalizing pedophilia, but instead pretending to advocate a position to challenge her students and prepare them to read the book, The Crucible.

A week later, Call changed his opinion after the investigation, which is why he said he voted in favor to start the process of firing Parker.

“Any reasonable person that heard what the seven trustees heard would’ve voted to terminate Amber Parker,” Call said.
