According to Politico Congressional reporter Olivia Beavers, Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) is set to officially announce his bid for House Speaker later today.

As Breaking Digest previously reported, Matt Gaetz’s motion to vacate the chair against House Speaker Kevin McCarthy passed after a vote on the House floor Tuesday.

Gaetz addressed the press following his successful removal of McCarthy from the speakership on Tuesday.

During his statement, Gaetz said he “thinks the world” of Rep. Scalise and believes he would make a phenomenal House Speaker.

Congressman Jim Jordan joined the ranks of those endorsing Steve Scalise as a prospective House Speaker on Tuesday night, following McCarthy’s removal.

Jordan commented, “I think Steve would also be a great speaker. I think Steve has given so much for our country. He’s done an outstanding job as Majority Leader. But I do think the conference is going to have to get together.”

A few other GOP members have already expressed their support for Scalise as House Speaker.

“Steve Scalise is our leader. If he wants it, then I think that it’s likely that he will be the leader — the speaker nominee,” Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA.) said.
