House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, underwent surgery to a fracture to his skull Friday, after he was attacked by a hammer wielding maniac who was looking for Nancy.
Paul was taken to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital following the attack and rushed into surgery this morning where he underwent the skull surgery, according to a local ABC report. Doctors reportedly expect the 82-year-old to recover from his injuries.
Drew Hamill, spokesman for Nancy Pelosi, issued a statement Friday afternoon with an update on Paul’s condition.
Pelosi Spokesperson Statement on Paul Pelosi’s Successful Surgery Following Violent Assault
Washington, D.C. — Drew Hammill, spokesman for Speaker Nancy Pelosi, issued this statement:
“Earlier this morning, Paul Pelosi was attacked at home by an assailant who acted with force, and threatened his life while demanding to see the Speaker.
“Mr. Pelosi was admitted to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital where he underwent successful surgery to repair a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands. His doctors expect a full recovery.
“The Speaker and her family are thankful for the outpouring of support and prayers from friends, constituents and people around the country. The Pelosi family is immensely grateful to Mr. Pelosi’s entire medical team and the law enforcement officers who responded to the assault. The family appreciates respect for their privacy during this time.”
Earlier reports that Paul underwent brain surgery were incorrect.
Members of the Pelosi family were reportedly at the hospital with Paul while the Speaker was flying in from D.C.
Paul Pelosi’s attacker was identified as 42-year-old Berkeley resident David Depape, The San Francisco Standard reported.
Reports this afternoon state that Paul dialed 911 around 2:27 a.m. PDT while confronting the man who allegedly broke into the Pelosi home. He was able let the dispatcher know he needed help without alerting the intruder.
Some of the circumstances surrounding the story are strange.
San Francisco police chief William Scott said Depape was booked on charges of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, burglary and “several additional felonies.”
The attack reportedly took place around 2:30 AM.
Depape waited until the police arrived to attack Paul, using Paul’s hammer and he was reportedly in his underwear.
David Depape is allegedly the “former nudist dude.”
