After conducting an independent fact-check, The New York Times – America’s premier paper – has verified the claims made by a whistleblower within the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The whistleblower alleged that officials from the Justice Department actively obstructed the IRS investigation concerning tax fraud by Joe Biden’s son, Hunter. The New York Times has concluded that the whistleblower’s claims are indeed truthful.
On Tuesday, Gary Shapley, an experienced IRS professional, once again came forward to highlight instances of interference that he encountered while investigating tax law violations by Joe Biden’s son, Hunter. Shapley’s team was responsible for determining whether there was any underreporting of income by Hunter Biden since 2018. In his testimony, Shapley mentioned witnessing Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss facing resistance from senior law enforcement officials when pursuing criminal charges against Hunter Biden. The New York Times corroborated this claim, although the confirmation is placed towards the end of its article.
House Republicans released Mr. Shapley’s account last week in response to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland’s assertions that neither he nor the White House pressured Weiss to grant special treatment to Hunter Biden. The sweetheart deal reached between Hunter Biden and prosecutors, where he entered guilty pleas to two misdemeanor tax violations and a firearms charge in exchange for avoiding prison time, has drawn criticism. Critics highlight the fact that Hunter Biden’s tax violations were settled at a remarkably lower level compared to similar cases in the district of Delaware.
While heading the investigation into Hunter Biden, Mr. Shapley, speaking before the House Ways and Means Committee, revealed that his relentless efforts to treat Hunter Biden like any other tax evader resulted in him being denied a promotion. Additionally, Mr. Shapley informed House Republicans that he personally heard Attorney Weiss state that he would not be the decision-maker regarding whether charges should be filed against the Joe Biden’s son.
Despite Hunter Biden’s guilty plea, he continues to remain alongside his father, as demonstrated by their recent presence at a state dinner. During the event, Attorney General Garland noticeably attempted to avoid any interaction with Hunter Biden in an awkward manner. Joe Biden, when faced with questions about his involvement in Hunter Biden’s business activities that led to the tax violations, has responded with hostility, yelling back retorts and dismissing such inquiries as “dumb questions” during tense encounters with reporters.
