Hunter Biden filed a lawsuit against Rudy Giuliani and his former lawyer Robert Costello on Tuesday, accusing them of violating state and federal computer privacy laws by “hacking into” his laptop… the laptop that he repeatedly denied was even his.
The lawsuit accuses Giuliani and Costello of spending years “hacking into, tampering with, manipulating, copying, disseminating, and generally obsessing over data that they were given that was taken or stolen from Hunter Biden’s laptops.
The lawsuit also claims that Giuliani and Costello have engaged in a smear campaign against Hunter.
Hunter’s lawsuit comes just two days before the House Oversight Committee’s impeachment inquiry into White House resident Joe Biden is set to begin, and is likely to add a new layer of complexity to the proceedings.
According to the lawsuit, “Defendants are among those who have been primarily responsible for what has been described as the ‘total annihilation’ of Plaintiff’s digital privacy.”
“Plaintiff has demanded Defendants Giuliani and Costello cease their unlawful activities with respect to Plaintiff’s data and return any data in their possession belonging to Plaintiff, but they have refused to do so,” attorneys for Hunter Biden wrote in the lawsuit, according to CNN. “Defendants’ statements suggest that their unlawful hacking activities are ongoing today and that, unless stopped, will continue into the future, thereby necessitating this action.”
The Hill reported:
Hunter Biden is suing Rudy Giuliani for the “total annihilation” of his digital privacy and data, filing a civil suit over the former mayor’s involvement in disseminating information he purported to be from Biden’s laptop.
“Defendants are among those who have been primarily responsible for what has been described as the ‘total annihilation’ of Plaintiff’s digital privacy,” Biden’s attorneys wrote in the suit.
“For the past many months and even years, Defendants have dedicated an extraordinary amount of time and energy toward looking for, hacking into, tampering with, manipulating, copying, disseminating, and generally obsessing over data that they were given that was taken or stolen from Plaintiff’s devices or storage platforms, including what Defendants claim to have obtained from Plaintiff’s alleged ‘laptop’ computer,’” they wrote, noting the data actually came from a hard drive.
The suit, filed in California, alleged that Giuliani violated the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, as well as a California law dealing with data access and fraud.
In 2019, Hunter Biden brought his damaged laptops to a Delaware computer repair shop owned by John Paul Mac Isaac.
John Paul Mac Isaac’s life took a turn in April 2019 when Hunter Biden, visibly intoxicated, visited his computer repair shop with three MacBook Pro laptops in a damaged state.
One of the laptops was so severely damaged that it was deemed irreparable, and John Paul Mac Isaac returned it to Hunter.
The second laptop needed a keyboard, which John Paul Mac Isaac lent to Hunter. However, the keyboard was never returned to him. As for the third laptop, Hunter left it with Mac Isaac for repairs.
Hunter Biden never came back to John Paul Mac Isaac’s repair shop to reclaim his belongings.
After numerous unsuccessful attempts to contact Hunter Biden, John Paul Mac Isaac legally assumed ownership of the laptop that had been abandoned by Hunter Biden.
In October 2020, The New York Post unveiled an “October surprise” that had a significant impact on Joe Biden’s presidential campaign. They published emails from Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop.
These emails exposed Hunter Biden’s engagement in business dealings with foreign nations and his role as a middleman for Joe Biden in an international influence-peddling scheme.
CNN reported:
Hunter Biden filed a civil lawsuit Tuesday against Rudy Giuliani and his former attorney, claiming they caused “total annihilation” of his digital privacy and violated federal and state computer privacy laws through their alleged efforts to hack his devices.
In the lawsuit filed in federal court in California, Hunter Biden accuses Giuliani and Robert Costello of spending years “hacking into, tampering with, manipulating, copying, disseminating, and generally obsessing over data that they were given that was taken or stolen from” his devices.
Tuesday’s lawsuit is the latest that Hunter Biden has brought as he pursues an aggressive legal strategy against his detractors. It comes as Republicans launch an impeachment inquiry into his father, President Joe Biden, that’s also examining Hunter Biden’s business dealings.
“Everyone involved in stealing and manipulating Hunter’s data should be hearing footsteps right about now,” a source on Hunter’s legal team told CNN.
Hunter Biden is using legal tactics to counteract the Republicans’ impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden.
