An accomplished teenager from Dutchess County, New York, is being remembered by the community after his sudden death.
Jack Aidan Strehl, 16, was a junior at Arlington High School in LaGrangeville, where he was a shot putter and discus thrower on the track and field team.
His cause of death has not been released.
A GoFundMe campaign organized by Jennifer Sullivan had raised more than $74,000 by Friday morning toward funeral expenses and financial expenses associated with the death.
Jack’s obituary referred to him as “an all-American boy” with an “everlasting smile.”
“Today, we honor Jack Aidan Strehl. A young man who throughout the years has grown into someone very special to me,” friend Michael Jonathan wrote in a social media post on Friday:
Today, we honor Jack Aidan Strehl. A young man who throughout the years has grown into someone very special to me. With the love and support of him and his family. I wouldn’t be where I am today. This is by far going to be the toughest day for them. And I just want to give back all my Love and Support during their hardest moment yet. The same that they always gave me but more. I’m here for you. And I’ll be remembering all the good times we shared together. I love you Jack. I owe you a lot. More than you’ll ever know. Rest In Peace Buddy! I know you’re with us in our hearts and minds today. And I’ll continue to love and support you and your family for all the years to come. Just like so effortlessly they always did for me. Rest easy big guy. And I know we’ll meet again someday. Until then. I’ll be missing you.
A scholarship fund is being set up in Jack’s memory at Arlington High School, according to the Daily Voice.
“Donations may be made payable to the Arlington Education Foundation, 144 Todd Hill Road, Lagrangeville, NY 12540. Please reference the Jack Aidan Strehl Scholarship in the memo field.”
