Maui Mayor Richard Bissen faced a barrage of questions during his recent trip to Lahaina.
Almost two weeks have passed since the devastating blaze tore through the town on Tuesday, August 8th. Astonishingly, the mayor is unaware of the number of missing children despite the discovery of more than 110 bodies in the aftermath of the fire.
On Sunday, Hawaii Governor Josh Green announced that a staggering number of individuals, including children, remain missing in Lahaina, Maui – totaling over 1,000.
Hawaii Governor Josh Green:
More than a thousand are unaccounted for, about 1,050…
That is possible, that there will be many children.
Do I wish those sirens went off? Of course, I do. And I think that the answer that the Emergency Administrator from Maui who resigned was, of course, unsatisfactory to the world, but it is the case that we have historically not used those kinds of warnings for fires.
