UPDATE: According to WRAL, Tailei Qi, a graduate of UNC, was identified as a person of interest in the on-campus shooting that occurred on Monday. A suspect has been taken into custody.

On Monday, the University of North Carolina issued an emergency alert to its students and staff, cautioning them about an armed and dangerous person on campus.

Shots were fired on campus.

Preliminary reports suggest that at least two individuals were injured.

At 1:03 p.m., UNC-Chapel Hill released an initial alert to the community of an “armed and dangerous person on or near campus.”

The university advised all individuals present on campus to promptly seek shelter indoors and refrain from standing near windows.

WRAL reported:

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Monday sent an emergency notification reporting an armed and dangerous person was “on or near” campus.

A source told WRAL News that someone was armed while inside a campus building. Shots were fired, according to a source.

The alert was issued before 1 p.m. University police are advising all students, faculty and staff to:

Go inside immediately.
Close windows and doors.
Stay until further notice.
Follow directions from emergency responders or University officials.
Sirens sounded to make the campus community aware.

At 2:35 p.m., UNC Police announced that they are actively seeking a person of interest linked to the “armed and dangerous person situation.”
