On Thursday, the House voted 219-208 in favor of advancing Rep. Lauren Boebert’s resolution to impeach Joe Biden.
The resolution, H. Res. 503, now moves to the Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees.
Watch:
After the committees finish their review, they have the option to report the resolution back to the full House of Representatives with a recommendation. This recommendation may include adopting the resolution to initiate impeachment proceedings, rejecting it, or taking no action.
The articles presented by Rep. Boebert center around Biden’s disastrous immigration policies and the ongoing crisis at the US-Mexico border.
During her speech, Boebert broke down both articles of impeachment, namely abuse of power and dereliction of duty, outlining their key points and arguments.
“Article 1, Abuse of Power. The Constitution provides that the House of Representatives quote shall have the sole power of impeachment end quote and that the president of the United States, quote, shall be removed from office on impeachment for and conviction of treason bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors, end quote,” Boebert stated.
“In his conduct as president of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional oath, faithfully to execute the office of the President of the United States, and to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
“Article 2, Dereliction of Duty. The Constitution provides that the House of Representatives, quote, shall have the sole power of impeachment, end quote, and that the President of the United States, quote, shall be removed from office on impeachment for and the conviction of treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanors.” In his conduct as President of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional oath, faithfully to execute the office of the President of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, Joseph R. Biden Jr. has neglected the constitutional duty of the office of the President of the United States.”
Earlier today, Congressman Byron Donalds tweeted his support for the resolution, saying, “This impeachment resolution should be sent to @HomelandGOP to fully examine Biden’s dereliction of duty at our border. His negligence has major impacts on ALL of us: 100K fentanyl deaths, Cartels have operational control. I urge my colleagues to join me in support of this.”
