Ismail Haniyeh, a senior Hamas leader, was assassinated in a predawn airstrike in Tehran, Iran’s capital, according to the country’s Revolutionary Guards Corps and Hamas on Wednesday. This is a significant blow to the Palestinian organization.
According to the Iranian regime, Haniyeh as killed by an airborne guided projectile that hit the residence where he was staying.
Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed in the strike.

Haniyeh was in Tehran for the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who was sworn in amid chants of “Death to America, Israel!”

Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were martyred after their residence was targeted in Tehran, according to a statement released by the IRGC.
“With condolences to the heroic nation of Palestine and the Islamic nation and the combatants of the Resistance Front and the noble nation of Iran, this morning (Wednesday) the residence of Mr. Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political office of the Islamic Resistance of Hamas, was hit in Tehran, and following this incident, he and one of his bodyguards were martyred,” the statement reads.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
The strike on Haniyeh occurred less than 24 hours after Israel eliminated Hezbollah’s military commander in Lebanon.
