The day after the formal arrest and arraignment of President Trump on 37 federal charges, New York Attorney General Letitia James revealed that the state’s legal actions against Trump will temporarily take a backseat in favor of the ongoing case led by the Department of Justice. This decision also applies to the efforts of Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney.

During a recent podcast appearance, New York Attorney General Letitia James said she believes that her case, along with the cases led by DA Bragg and the Georgia case, would likely need to be adjourned pending the anticipated outcome of the federal case.

“So it all depends upon the scheduling of this particular case. I know there’s gonna be a flood, a flurry of motions, motion to dismiss, discovery issues, all of that. So it really all depends. Obviously, all of us want to know what Judge Cannon is going to do and whether or not she’s going to delay this particular case.”

Despite previously campaigning to investigate and prosecute President Trump, James has been unsuccessful in finding any charges to bring against him. However, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg took a different approach and utilized several obscure legal theories to file felony charges against President Trump.

Legal experts have raised concerns about the case presented by Bragg against Trump, pointing out various flaws. Bragg extended the statute of limitations on an administrative payment error, typically considered a misdemeanor, by leveraging COVID-era policies. He then elevated the charge to a felony by alleging a “conspiracy” to commit an unspecified crime. Moreover, Bragg duplicated the same charge 33 times, corresponding to each administrative error, resulting in a total of 37 felony charges against Trump.

Judge Aileen Cannon has been assigned as the federal judge who will preside over Special Counsel Jack Smith’s case against Trump in Florida.

It is worth noting that during her campaign for the position of New York Attorney General, James made promises to utilize her office to get Trump. She has consistently expressed her determination to uncover a crime that could be attributed to the former president.
