Shelley Duvall, the actress renowned for her portrayal of Wendy Torrance in “The Shining,” has passed away at the age of 75.
Deadline reported that Duvall died at her home in Blanco, Texas due to complications from diabetes.
Her longtime partner, Dan Gilroy, confirmed her death in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, saying, “My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend left us,” he said. “Too much suffering lately, now she’s free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley.”
Duvall was a frequent collaborator with director Robert Altman, starring in several of his films including “Brewster McCloud” and “Nashville.” She gained further recognition as Olive Oyl in Altman’s 1980 musical “Popeye,” alongside Robin Williams.

On television, she gained acclaim as the host of Showtime’s “Faerie Tale Theatre,” a beloved fantasy series that aired from 1982 to 1987.
As the 1990s progressed, Duvall’s prominence waned, and she gradually withdrew from public life. By the 2000s, health issues led to her retirement from acting.
In later years, it became evident that she faced mental health challenges, including reports of schizoaffective disorder.
She will be remembered as a versatile actress who took on roles spanning comedy, drama, and horror. Duvall received multiple nominations for prestigious awards, including a BAFTA for her performance in 1977’s “3 Women.” Her legacy as one of Hollywood’s esteemed talents will be remembered.
