25-year-old Nilson Granados-Trejo was arrested in connection with the murder of a toddler in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
On February 8th, two-year-old Jeremy Poou-Caceres was shot and killed on the 1400 block of Kanawha Street in Langley Park, following a shootout involving two groups.
Following an investigation, PG County police apprehended four suspects linked to the shootout. Additionally, Nilson Granados-Trejo was arrested on Monday and charged with first and second-degree murder.

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and arrested a fifth suspect in connection with the murder of a toddler in Langley Park. The arrested suspect is 25-year-old Nilson Granados-Trejo of no fixed address.
On February 8, 2024, a detective working in the area of the 1400 block of Kanawha Street heard gunfire and attempted to locate a crime scene. The detective discovered two-year-old Jeremy Poou-Caceres suffering from a gunshot wound. The child was pronounced deceased a short time later at a hospital. The toddler’s mother was also shot. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Since the murder, the PGPD has identified and arrested four other suspects – to include a 15-year-old male from Takoma Park and a 16-year-old male from Hyattsville. They are both charged as adults. The Homicide Unit has also arrested 33-year-old Israel Fuentes, Jr., of Lewisdale and 28-year-old Johnny Alejandro Turcios of Lewisdale. The preliminary investigation revealed two groups of males exchanged gunfire near where the victim and his mother were walking. The two victims were not the intended targets.
Granados-Trejo is charged with first and second degree murder. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond Status.
According to the police report, Granados-Trejo was listed as having “no fixed address,” another way of saying that he is in the country illegally.
However, a spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has since confirmed that Nelson Granados-Trejo is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador.
In 2019, the Prince George’s County Council unanimously voted to “bar all county agencies from engaging in immigration enforcement.”
Fox 5 DC reported that on November 7, 2022, an immigration judge from the Department of Justice in New Jersey ordered Granados-Trejo’s to be removed from the United States.
Following the order for his removal from the U.S., Granados-Trejo was apprehended for theft in Montgomery County, Maryland, four months later.
Upon learning of his arrest, ICE issued an immigration detainer for Granados-Trejo.
Nevertheless, the Montgomery County Department of Corrections refused to comply with the detainer.
In September 2023, Granados-Trejo was arrested for theft once more by the Montgomery County Police. ICE issued another detainer, but once again, MCDC chose to ignore it.

A fifth suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of 2-year-old Jeremy Poou Caceres.
The Prince George’s County Police Department announced Monday they’re now charging 25-year-old Nilson Trejo-Granados with first and second-degree murder.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations Baltimore spokesperson James Covington confirmed with FOX 5 that Trejo-Granados is an unlawfully present Salvadoran national.
On Nov. 7, 2022, a Department of Justice immigration judge in Newark, New Jersey ordered Trejo-Granados’ removal from the United States.
According to the ICE records, the Montgomery County Police Department arrested Trejo-Granados on March 21, 2023, and charged him with theft. While those charges remain pending, ICE lodged an Immigration Detainer on Trejo-Granados with the Montgomery County Detention Center on March 22, 2023; however, the agency says MCDC refused to honor the detainer and Trejo-Granados was released by MCDC on March 27, 2023.
