Judge Chutkan is prepared to silence Trump amid an ongoing presidential campaign.
Trump’s lawyer appeared before Judge Tanya Chutkan, who was appointed by Obama, on Friday morning for a hearing regarding a proposed so-called protective order, which is essentially a gag order.
In a departure from the usual 14-day response period, Chutkan granted Trump just ONE DAY to reply to a motion for the gag order filed by scumbag Jack Smith. This move indicates that Chutkan is inclined to silence Trump’s speech in the midst of a presidential campaign.
“There are limits, regardless of what is going on in, I hate to say it, his day job. This is a criminal case. The need for this criminal case to proceed in the normal order and protect witnesses and integrity of the process means there are going to be limits on the defendant’s speech.” – the Judge said arguing the First Amendment is “not absolute.”
Judge Chutkan expressed indifference to the potential impact on Trump’s presidential campaign as a result of her decision to impose a gag order, as reported by Rebecca Beitsch from The Hill.
In a surprising turn, the judge has aligned with Trump’s position on restricting certain discovery information. She has determined that Trump will only be restricted on information deemed sensitive to the case.
Chutkan rejected another request from Trump, which would allow him to disclose information if it becomes public through other means. She maintained that Trump remains barred from sharing any sensitive discovery related to those issues.
Chutkan sided with the federal government in preventing Trump from taking notes containing personally identifying information gleaned from the evidence.
In response, Trump’s attorney expressed his concern, stating, “I’ve never seen case where counsel has to sit next to a client and literally babysit in terms of what they review and what notes they take.”
Breaking Digest previously reported that Jack Smith requested a trial date of January 2 for President Trump’s charges related to the January 6 case in Washington DC.
According to a recent court filing on Thursday, “The Government proposes that trial begin on January 2, 2024, and estimates that its case in chief will take no longer than four to six weeks.”
Jack Smith wants Trump convicted by Super Tuesday in March.
