Border Patrol Intel Agent, Jose “Merc” Mercado, died suddenly on Saturday due to an “unexpected and sudden heart attack.”
He was only 34 years old.
The news of his death was confirmed by Representative Mayra Flores (R-TX) in a social media post.
Jose Mercado was a member of Class 875 out of US Border Patrol RGV Sector. He served with the US Border Patrol as an outstanding Agent for 14 years.

He is survived by his beautiful wife Valerie Mercado, and his three beautiful children Amerie Lynn Mercado, Ryan Isaiah Mercado, and Alina Marie Mercado. The lives of the Mercado family are changed forever as the loss of a loving husband and father will leave a great void in their daily lives. All those who knew Jose Mercado aka as “Merc” both personally and professionally will express just how much of an amazing human being he was. He served with the United States Border Patrol as an outstanding Agent for 14 years and was a full-time husband/father outside of work. He was a great person with an enormous heart. The type of person who got along with everyone, people could depend on, welcomer of the group, and was always willing to help others in the time of need. He will be deeply missed by all he knew him.
