In Provo, Utah, a joyous occasion turned into a heart-wrenching family tragedy. According to The Salt Lake Tribune’s report on Thursday, 19-year-old Liam Mildenstein, a Provo native, was reading his mission statement to his entire family when he suddenly collapsed backward and tragically passed away later.
The shocking medical incident occurred right after the young man disclosed the location of his Mormon mission. He had been eagerly anticipating the news for weeks, hoping to be assigned to serve in Japan, and his wish was granted.
Immediately after Liam collapsed, his family dialed 911, but despite the prompt response of medical personnel, it was too late. Liam did not regain his pulse, leaving the family devastated by the unexpected loss.
One hour after collapsing, the young man tragically passed away. At present, the cause of Liam’s sudden death remains unknown, as an official autopsy has not been conducted yet.
His older brother, Kaelten, shared in a text message with the Tribune that Liam had no known health conditions, and there were no indications or signs of this devastating tragedy on the horizon.
Kaelten added that fulfilling his mission in Japan had been Liam’s lifelong dream.
Kaelten affectionately described his brother as a “very sweet person” who always tried to help others. Liam was also a musician who played several different instruments.
Liam was a very sweet person. He was very innocent and always wanted to help people and do good. He had a childlike heart. He was a musician. He played drums and Irish flute and all kinds of instruments.
On Wednesday, the Mildenstein family launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with the “completely unexpected” funeral expenses for Liam. As of Saturday morning, the donations have exceeded $37,000, surpassing the initial $30,000 goal.
