Today, Senator Josh Hawley and other Republican senators grilled Department of Homeland Security Director Alejandro Mayorkas, who admitted that the suspect in the murder of Laken Riley was previously in custody but illegally paroled due to a government program for “urgent humanitarian situations.”
The lax enforcement of immigration laws under Joe Biden has allowed dangerous illegal aliens to be released onto the streets, one of whom murdered Laken Riley in February of this year.
Senator Hawley tore into Mayorkas yesterday, while reading from the parole file, during a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing.
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) directly asked Mayorkas how he could sleep at night, knowing that his actions caused the death of 22-year-old Laken Riley.
Watch:
On February 22nd, 22-year-old Laken Riley, a nursing student at Augusta University in Georgia, was jogging at the University of Georgia when she was abducted. Her body was found nearby in the Oconee Forest Park, killed as a result of blunt force trauma.
Criminal illegal alien José Antonio Ibarra, 26, from Venezuela, was arrested and charged with felony murder, false imprisonment, and kidnapping. A date for the trial has not yet been set.
Riley’s father urged the Georgia legislature to declare the influx of illegal aliens as an “invasion.”
President Trump later visited and mourned with the Riley family.
In March, the House passed the Laken Riley Act, requiring federal immigration authorities to apprehend and detain illegal aliens until they are deported.
