Obama campaign official Peggy Moore and her wife Hope Wood were killed in a horrific car accident in Southern California last week.

NBC Bay Area news reported that on Friday, Moore, 60, and Wood, 48, were passengers in a Jeep pickup truck on Highway 76, in rural San Diego County, when the vehicle collided head-on with a Chrysler sedan.

The drivers of both the Jeep and the Chrysler were also killed.

Moore previously served as the president of the East Bay Stonewall Democratic Club.

“We at East Bay Stonewall Democratic Club are devastated to hear of the passing of our past President Peggy Moore and her wife, Hope Wood. Moore was a force of change in Oakland and the East Bay,” the club wrote in a Facebook post.

According to her LinkedIn page, Peggy Moore previously served as the campaign manager for former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf’s 2014 campaign, worked as a senior consultant for Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton’s campaign, and held the position of Political Director for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential primary campaign in California.

NBC Bay Area reported that Moore and Hope Wood met while working on Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign, with Moore serving as the Northern California Deputy Field Director at the time.

In 2019, the couple co-founded Hope Action Change, an organizational development consultancy and coaching firm.

Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) fondly remembered Wood and Moore, describing them as “remarkable women” dedicated to equality and social justice in an X post shared on Tuesday.

“Peggy Moore & Hope Wood were remarkable women who dedicated their lives to equality & justice. Their values brought them together & are the legacy they leave behind. Their family & friends are hurting, but we must remember we are all connected through the work they did every day.”
