Saivion Smith, a cornerback for the Detroit Lions, collapses on the field today during a game in New England.

Detroit Lions tweeted out he is being treated for a “neck injury”.

An ambulance was brought on the field and his father was brought down from the stands to ride in the ambulance, something the announcers “haven’t seen” as they gestured to someone to bring his father down from the stands to ride in the ambulance.

From the video below, it is very difficult to tell what happened, but it does not appear to be a neck injury.

But a picture from USA Today shows Smith on the stretcher sitting up with no neck brace, with his neck cocked to the side.

It is unlikely that a player with a neck injury would be permitted to sit up like that without any brace.  It’s also bizarre that an ambulance, not a golf cart, was brought on the field and his father was brought down to ride in it with his son.

We will keep you updated as this develops. Prayers to Saivion Smith and his family.
