During Wednesday’s Congressional hearing, Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) got into a fiery exchange with Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas for his handling of the U.S. border crisis and blatantly lying to Congress.
Roy specifically highlighted Mayorkas’ previous statements in April 2022, when he testified under oath that the U.S. had “operational control” of the border, as per the definition outlined in the Secure Fence Act. This definition encompasses the prevention of all unlawful entries into the U.S., including illegal aliens, terrorists, narcotics, and contraband.
During the Congressional hearing, Roy accused Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas of misleading the American people by giving a false impression of border control. Roy backed his claim with contradictory testimony from Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz and Mayorkas’ own subsequent statements, which acknowledged that no administration had ever achieved operational control as defined by the Secure Fence Act.
Moreover, Roy accused Mayorkas of a consistent pattern of lying, highlighting the Secretary’s initial response to the conspiracy theory involving Border Patrol agents allegedly using whips on Haitian migrants in September 2021. Mayorkas had attributed the incident to systemic racism, despite an internal DHS email revealing that the photographer who captured the images did not witness any whipping.
Watch:
Roy emphasized the alarming increase in fentanyl-related deaths, which he directly attributed to the lax border control. “We have now had, since you testified, we have had something like 200 people a day dying from fentanyl deaths, which would amount to 90,000 people,” he fumed.
Alejandro Mayorkas, under Joe Biden’s leadership, has allowed over 7 million migrants to enter the United States illegally.
Sadly, Democrats will continue to commit these crimes because everyone can see that the GOP is too weak to put a stop to it.
Irrespective of the results of these numerous hearings, these cases are playing out simultaneously in the court of public opinion, and the American public is judging this administration’s actions harshly.
