Mysterious billboards are appearing in San Francisco and Los Angeles, warning people not to move to Texas on the grounds of mass shootings. “The Texas miracle died in Uvalde”, “Don’t move to Texas,” the billboard reads alongside a picture of a hooded figure and the “Don’t mess with Texas” slogan crossed out.
Residents have reported seeing the billboards in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Census data reveals that large numbers of Californians have moved to Texas and several large companies, like Tesla and Oracle, have relocated their headquarters from California to Texas in recent years.
Rising cost of living, high taxes, poverty and homelessness and the heavy-handed response to the Covid-19 pandemic are some of the most common reasons people are leaving California to red states.
According to a recent report by Bloomberg, the “exodus” from California accelerated during the pandemic.
“The long-term migration out of California accelerated during the Covid-19 crisis, with Texas, Washington and Florida as top destinations for people moving out of the state, according to a study from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.”
