House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was removed from his position due to a loss of support from a group of conservative colleagues. Several hardline Republicans had voiced their dissatisfaction with McCarthy’s leadership style and his stance on critical matters like Ukraine funding, leading to the vote that removed him from his position.
This marks the first time in the history of the U.S. House of Representatives where a Speaker has been successfully ousted through a motion to vacate the chair.
One House member motioned to table the vote on Gaetz’s motion to vacate, and eleven House Republicans voted “nay”, clearing a path for a likely success of Gaetz’s resolution.
Here are the eleven Republicans who voted nay to tabling the motion:

President Trump had recently commented on the infighting within the GOP, questioning the lack of Republican unity against Democrats.
Matt Gaetz, a staunch Trump supporter who wields considerable influence within the caucus, reaffirmed his criticisms of McCarthy and other establishment Republicans in a fiery speech prior to the vote.
