Active Shooter Attack in Lewiston, Maine Claims at Least 22 Lives, Leaves 50 to 60 Injured

It is being reported that at least 22 people have been killed and several others injured after at least one assailant opened fire at multiple sites in Lewiston, Maine.

Gunfire has been reported at a bowling alley, a restaurant, and a recreation center, following initial reports of an active shooter around 7:15 p.m. ET. Lewiston Police posted on Facebook that they were responding to an active shooter situation and encouraged residents to shelter in place.

“Please stay off the roads to allow emergency responders access to the hospitals,” police said.

Central Maine Medical Center has confirmed that they are dealing with a “mass casualty, mass shooter event” and are coordinating with local hospitals to admit patients.

CNN reported that a minimum of 16 people were killed, and numerous others have been wounded as a result of the shootings.

The police have officially announced their pursuit of at least one gunman and have shared two photographs on Facebook. One of these photos shows the alleged suspect, a light-skinned man donning a light brown shirt and blue jeans, armed with a semiautomatic rifle.

Law enforcement has also published images of a vehicle under investigation in relation to the shootings, which is described as a white hybrid SUV, potentially with a black bumper.

At least 16 people are dead in multiple shootings in Lewiston, Maine Wednesday night, according to multiple law enforcement sources.

At least 50 to 60 people are injured in the incidents, though it’s unclear how many are injured due to gunfire, the sources told CNN.

Lewiston Police Department’s Lt. Derrick St. Laurent told NEWS CENTER Maine that the shootings took place at Sparetime Recreation and Schemengees, with multiple individuals reportedly sustaining injuries.
