On Friday, a Target store in Utah was evacuated after the location, and multiple others, received a bomb threat.
The incident took place at the Target located at 810 West 2000 North in Layton, Utah. Law enforcement, including a bomb squad and K9 unit, immediately responded to the scene, according to local news outlet KUTV 2.
All customers and staff were evacuated to the parking lot as a precautionary measure.
According to reports, local news stations received emails from trans extremists who threatened to bomb the Target stores for removing “tuck friendly” swimsuits and ”chest binders” for children and designs by Abprallen, a London-based transgender designer whose products promote violence, drug-use and satanism.
Stores in Salt Lake City, Taylorsville, and Provo were also targeted.
In addition to Utah, five other stores located in Northeast Ohio and Pennsylvania were also threatened.
“Target is full of [redacted] cowards who turned their back on the LGBT community and decided to cater to homophobic right wing, redneck, bigots, who protested and vandalized their store,” the email to Cleveland 19 read. “We won’t stand idly by as the far right continues to hunt us down.”
“We are sending you a message, we placed a bomb in the following Targets,” the email continued. “We will continue to bomb your Targets until you stop cowering and bring back your LBGT merchandise. We will not be erased, we won’t go quietly.”
Cleveland 19 reported the email to local law enforcement and the FBI.
Threats of boycotts and customer outrage across the country prompted Target executives to hold an emergency meeting during which they decided to remove some of the LGBTQ+ merchandise and the satanic transgender designer’s products.
