On Friday near Hazelwood East High School in St. Louis, Missouri, a white female student was hospitalized in critical condition due to a traumatic brain injury following a fight with a black female student.
The cause of the altercation remains unclear.
Authorities have not provided the victim’s identity or age.
The Hazelwood School District issued a statement regarding the incident.
“It is a tragedy anytime children are hurt. Bullying and fighting in the community is an issue for which we all need to take ownership and work towards a resolution for the sake of our children. The Hazelwood School District offers our sincerest condolences to everyone involved, and will offer additional emotional support from our support and crisis team to those in need. We look forward to continuing to partner with our community for the sake of our children. Please be kind and respectful of the families involved during this difficult time and pledge to help work toward the betterment of our entire community.”
The teenage girl was beaten until she lost consciousness, while numerous bystanders looked on. Subsequent altercations broke out among other groups.

A person was critically injured in a fight Friday near Hazelwood East High School.
St. Louis County Police said the female victim, whose age was not provided, was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. The victim’s condition at the time of this writing was unknown.
An agency spokesperson did not provide any additional details and it’s not clear if any arrests were made. The spokesperson said more information may be available Monday.
KMOX reported that a 15-year-old girl has been arrested in connection with a violent altercation, and is currently in the custody of the St. Louis County Family Court, facing a felony assault charge.
St. Louis County Police confirmed to KMOX that the video shows the incident that occurred on Friday near an intersection close to the school.
Vera Clay, spokesperson for the St. Louis County Police Department, stated that officers were notified of the fight shortly after 2:30 PM. The altercation took place just north of Hazelwood East High School’s campus.
The St. Louis County Police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the altercation.
