In relation to his Freedom of Speech case in Washington D.C., President Trump has called for the immediate recusal of U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan, citing her far-left and anti-Trump stance.
Chutkan has gained notoriety for her harsh judgments against conservative defendants. Notably, NBC has highlighted that she stands as the sole federal judge in the nation’s capital who has handed down sentences for January 6th defendants that are longer than the government’s recommended terms.
Her political leanings appear evident from her previous contributions to political campaigns. According to her publicly available donation records, the judge contributed over $3,000 to Barack Obama’s campaigns during the years 2008 to 2012.
Adding weight to Trump’s claims of bias is Chutkan’s professional association with Hunter Biden.
According to a recent investigation by the Daily Caller Foundation, the Obama-appointed judge presiding over the latest criminal indictment (election interference) against President Trump was previously a prominent attorney at the law firm that had employed Hunter Biden during his tenure on the board of directors at Burisma.
Prior to her appointment as U.S. District Judge in Washington, D.C. by former President Barack Obama in 2014, Tanya Chutkan had a successful legal career, notably spending a decade at Boies, Schiller, & Flexner LLP (BSF). During her time at the firm, she focused on white-collar litigation and antitrust defense. Interestingly, her tenure at BSF coincided with Hunter Biden’s employment at the same firm, during which he reportedly developed connections with attorneys to aid Burisma in expanding its influence in Washington, as indicated by emails obtained from Hunter’s laptop.
In response to these revelations, Trump expressed his concerns over the weekend via Truth Social.
There is no way I can get a fair trial with the judge “assigned” to the ridiculous freedom of speech/fair elections case. Everybody knows this, and so does she! We will be immediately asking for recusal of this judge on very powerful grounds, and likewise for venue change, out of D.C.
