Former NFL player, Tyrone Davis, died unexpectedly Monday at age 50.
Your GV reports:
It’s not every day a kid from Halifax County High School goes on to play Division-I football at the University of Virginia. It’s even rarer that he goes on to play eight seasons in the NFL. It’s unheard of he goes on to play in Super Bowl XXXII.
Tyrone Davis could claim all three.
After spending only one season playing for former Halifax coach Larry Smith, Davis went on to star at UVa. from 1991-94 before being chosen in the fourth round of the 1995 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. Three years later, he was playing in Super Bowl XXXII for the Green Bay Packers when they squared off against the Denver Broncos.
That history departed this Earth with Davis when he died unexpectedly Monday at age 50.
“This is by far one of the hardest posts to write,” said Davis’ older brother, Jeff, on a Facebook post Monday. “Last night, the Lord opened up heaven and received my baby brother. This is definitely a tough one for me as this was very unexpected.
“Tyrone caught many touchdown passes in the NCAA and NFL. Last night, he made the ultimate touchdown completion! Take your rest lil bro. Your race is now complete. Big bro loves you.”
