Jaheim Burnes died in his sleep with his favorite blanket late last week, his mom Felicia Burnes Tibbs said on social media.
A cause of death was not immediately known.
A GoFundMe has raised $12,000 for the family,
Felicia shared a heartbreaking message on Facebook, following Jaheim’s tragic passing.
“I am devastated to lose Jaheim,” she writes. “The sweetest, kindest, best kid and big brother. “We loved talking about his doggies after class. His smile was contagious, and his after school hugs were the best.”
Jaheim’s school announced the sad news of his passing in a message on Facebook.
“With great sadness, we write to share that Jaheim Burnes, a 6th grader in the Pride of 2029, passed away last Wednesday evening in his home. Jaheim had just celebrated his birthday and was enjoying the start of his 6th-grade year here at KIPP Baltimore. We will remember him as a happy child who cared for others, especially his younger brother Ja’bari, and a person who always wore his pride after an accomplishment. We will miss his joy and look of quiet concentration in the classroom; Mrs. Walter Adamnson remembers his daily hugs and smile. A KIPPster since Kindergarten, Jaheim will not be forgotten but will live with us in our hearts each day. Please keep Mr. and Mrs. Tibbs and his younger brother, Ja’bari, in your hearts and show them love and support as we get through this difficult time. We are all hurting and need each other now more than ever.”
