EL PASO, Texas— What was supposed to be a shipment of baby wipes happened to be a load of cocaine, becoming the largest uncovered at a Laredo port of entry in 20 years, border officials said.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the cocaine arrived in a trailer last Friday, Aug. 26, at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge in Laredo, Texas, where a drug-sniffing dog was able to alert officers to 1,935 packages containing 1,533 pounds of the addictive deadly drug.
The estimated street value of the shipment was $11.8 million, Randy Howe, director of CBP’s Laredo Office of Field Operations, called it a “…record setting seizure. Largest Cocaine bust in 20 years!”
This just shows how lethal drugs can find their way into family homes in unexpected ways. As inflation increases, families are searching for more affordable products. Parents should be encouraged to double-check where their children’s goods are shipped from to avoid a fatal encounter.
